Developing and Promoting Nature-based Tourism in the Coral Triangle

October 2015 – July 2017

In late 2015, 2iis Consulting produced a Baseline Analysis of the current state of tourism in the Coral Triangle that also outlined a roadmap for the future development of nature-based tourism as a socio-economic development pathway for the region.

The analysis was part of a WWF project funded by the Australian Government that looks to support the 6 governments of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI–CFF) in developing and accelerating a long-term approach to more sustainable nature-based tourism in the Coral Triangle. The 6 countries involved are Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste.

In May 2017 2iis led some detailed analysis of the potential Return on Investment (ROI) for Nature–based Tourism in the Coral Triangle and in September 2016 was involved in the on–ground development of detailed Tourism Destination Management Plans in the Kimbe Bay Region of Papua New Guinea.

The project ran for 2 years with 2iis providing research and analytical support along with sustainable tourism, marketing and business case development input and expertise.
